Here is a Yuenglings Eagle Brewery Sign from the D. G. Yuengling’s Eagle Brewery located in Pottsville, PA.  This Eagle Brewery Sign is from between 1873 to 1914 and is in excellent condition for it’s age.

This sign was made by the Lehman & Bolton lithography company located in Philadelphia, PA.  it is approximately 18″ wide and is made of which embossed paper.  The typography on this sign reads “D. G. Yuengling’s Eagle Brewery Pottsville, PA” and “Porter, Ale, Brown Stout, and Lager Beer” written across the top and bottom.  The graphics included the brewery’s trademark eagle perched on a patriotic shield and a frame of embossed vines and flowers that run along the outside edge of the sign.  The eagle is clenching an olive branch and a bundle of arrows which is used to signify peace and war.

Judging from the use of the two brewery names on the same sign I would guess that this piece would date from the early to mid 1870’s. The brewery used the D. G. Yuengling name from when they established the brewery in 1829 up until 1873 when they decided to change the name to the Eagle Brewing Company. The use of both brewery names on the same sign would make the brewery name transition smoother as to not confuse people in their advertising.
