Here is a Sunshine Beer Lighted Sign from the Sunshine Brewing Company located in Reading, PA. This Sunshine Beer Lighted Sign is from the early 1930’s era and is in excellent condition for it’s age. Signs like these would have been displayed on the bar back in taverns to advertising Barbey’s Sunshine Beer to patrons. This Sunshine Beer Sign has both a metal easel on the back and a top chain for display.
The Sunshine Beer Sign is approximately 18″ X 8″ and is made a thick piece of raised lettered embossed reverse-painted glass face mounted in a backlit, riveted metal body. Originally the trim around the front of the Sunshine Sign would have been chrome. On the back of the sign there are 2 sliding doors used for replacement of the 15w light bulbs; I however have replaced the original bulbs with new LED bulbs to avoid baking the reverse painted glass paint on the front.
Signs like this one were made by the Brunhoff Manufacturing Company located in Cincinnati, OH. This style of Brunhoff signs weren’t made for very long, due to often breakage from the off balance of the heavy face and the half-rounded body; the signs were susceptible to falling over and breaking.
