Here is a Stegmaier’s Lager Beer Sign from the Stegmaier Brewing Company located in Wilkes Barre, PA. This Stegmaier’s Lager Beer Sign is from the late 1800’s era and is in very good condition for it’s age.
This sign was made by the Tuchfarber Company located in Cincinnati, OH. From my in-depth research, the Tuchfarber Company was in business from 1881 to 1900; and the Stegmaier Brewery began using the Stegmaier name from 1897 to 1920; so I would date this sign somewhere between 1897 to 1900. It is made of embossed painted tin; however, the frame isn’t original to this sign.
The graphics on this Stegmaier sign are colored in real 24K gold and light blue paint and depict the brewery’s insignia in a crown of hop cones and leaves; while the lettering reads Stegmaier’s Lager Beer and Porter, Wilkes Barre, PA. Sign like these would have been displayed outside on the walls of taverns, hotels and distributors to advertise Stegmaier Lager Beer and Porter to patrons.
There is actually another variation of this Stegmaier Lager and Porter Sign; click here to view a photograph of it. I am actively looking for that variation to add to my collection; please contact me if you have one.
