This is a Pale Reserve Beer Glass Sign from the Old Reading Brewing Company located in Reading, PA. This glass sign is a reverse-on-glass (ROG) sign with a cardboard backer on it with a standup easel. Pale Reserve Beer was the Old Reading Brewing Company’s flagship beer and was brewed from 1940 to 1969. Signs like these would have either been hung on the wall or displayed on the bar back. The condition on this sign is in excellent condition as most of these were broken or the paint would begin to chip off the backer.
The Old Reading Brewing Company also had other items that advertised their Pale Reserve Beer in the form of thermometers, clocks, bottle displays, lights, coasters, tap knobs, and other signs. I have a few items listed here, although anything that advertises the Pale Reserve Beer brand is very hard to find.
This sign was made by the Beeco Manufacturing Company located in Chicago, IL. Beeco made a lot of glass signs for various breweries and are still doing it to this day with the popular modern framed beer mirrors from breweries like Budweiser, Coors, Miller, Becks, as well as various liquor companies too.
This is a very rare and tough sign to come by, I don’t know of anyone else who has one in their collection. I am lucky and happy to have it in my collection.
