Here is a Pabst Beer Cab Light from the Pabst Brewing Company located in Milwaukee, WI. This Pabst Beer Cab Light is from the 1930’s era and is in very good condition for it’s age.
This sign was made by the Gillco Glass Sign Company located in Philadelphia, PA. It is approximately 15″ wide and is made of reverse-painted glass mounted on a backlit claw-footed metal base. This style of sign is known as a “cab light” or “taxi cab light” because it resembles the light that mounts on the top of older taxi cabs.
There are actually 3 other variations of this Pabst beer gill glass sign all made by the Gillco Glass Sign Company. The other variations include Old Tankard Ale, Pabst Export Beer, and the other is a more generic version that reads “It’s Time for Pabst”; click here to view that variation from my collection. Signs like these would have been displayed as bar back displays to advertise Pabst Beer in “TapaCans” and “New Style Bottles” to patrons.
I am actively looking for all the other variations as well as a potential upgrade to the ones I have in better condition; please contact me if you have any for sale.
