Here is an Old Reading on Tap sign from the Old Reading Brewing Company located in Reading, PA. This sign is made out of tin and was made by the Permanent Sign Company located in Reading, PA. I would put a date on this sign around the 1930’s era maybe 1940’s. There are actually 5 variations of this sign just with different text but with the same border. Some advertise Old Reading Beer while other advertise Pale Reserve Beer which was the brewery’s flagship beer. There is also a matching full size chalkboard TOC (tin-over-cardboard) sign with the same border as signs like this one. This sign would have been hung is a bar or tavern to advertise to the patrons that Old Reading Beer was on Tap. This sign is in excellent condition with a few very light scratches.
I have been looking for this exact sign for a long time and just out of dumb luck came across one on a Saturday afternoon in late winter. I’m very happy to have this sign in my collection and I will be keeping my eye out for the other 4 variations in the future. If you know where I might be able to find the other variations please click here and let me know.
