Here is a Lauer Lager Beer Sign from the Lauer Brewing Company located in Reading, PA. This pre-prohibition era Lauer Lager Beer Sign is from the early 1900’s era and is in very good condition for it’s age. The sign itself is made of a thin tin, painted in black and gold, and highlighted with a gold leaf sparkled graphic.
This Lauer Brewery Beer Sign was made by the Shonk Tin Printing Company located in Chicago, IL. The advertising text and graphics of this sign reads “Ask For Lauer Brewing Co’s Extra Brewed Lager Beer bottled by S. C. Mitchell”.
The beginning text “Lauer Brewing Co’s” refers to a few smaller Lauer family-run breweries and bottling companies across Pennsylvania; however the main Lauer brewery was located in Reading, PA. Lauer Extra Brewed Lager Beer was also one of the flagship beers that the brewery made during that time. The base advertising on this sign promotes the bottling company S. C. Mitchell located in Selin’s Grove (currently known as Selinsgrove), PA. This style of Shonk sign was also made for other PA breweries like Reading Brewing Company, Rettig Brewing Company, and Mrs. Jacob Flock Brewing Company just to name a few.
