Here is a Hornung’s White Bock Beer Print Block from the Jacob Hornung Brewing Company located in Philadelphia, PA. This Hornung’s White Bock Beer Print Block is from the 1940’s era and is in excellent condition for it’s age. This block was most likely used for printing newspaper ads or the sides of beer cases.
It’s actually amazing that this print block has even survived and made it into the collectors market to begin with. Usually after a printer used a block like this one for a publication the print block would have been destroyed, melted down, and recycled. The breweries would order the printing companies to do this that way they could regulate their brand and copy write. If a printer was caught taking a print block like this out of the print shop then major legal action would be taken in the form of copy write infringement.
