1519 Tower Grove Avenue / St. Louis, MO
The Woodward & Tiernan Printing Company was established in 1892 and was located in St. Louis, MO. Woodward & Tiernan Printing Company produced printed lithography in the form of engravings, castings, calendars, prints, and labels.
At one time, Woodward & Tiernan Printing Co. was the largest printing company in St. Louis. They had a partnership with Milwaukee Litho & Engraving Company located in Milwaukee, WI, and would often outsource projects to them as well as visa-versa. In March of 1904, they ceased operations and closed permanently.
The majority of the work that they produced was in stationary, calendars, ad cards, and other print collateral for various companies across the country including National Cash Register Company, John Deere, Frisco Lines, and Missouri Pacific Railway just to name a few. They also produced advertising lithos, calendars, and beer bottle labels for breweries like Indianapolis, T.M. Norton, Lone Star, Strohs, Jos. Lauer, Lemp, Falstaff, Nuding, Fred. Krug, National, Griesedieck Bros., Anheuser-Busch, Berghoff, Pabst, New Orleans, Reymann, and Columbia just to name a few.
The original office and manufacturing building is still standing to this day and was put on the “National Register of Historic Places” in 2015; click here to view the building. The building has since been repurposed into luxury loft apartments under the “Woodward Lofts” name.
