Roots and Heinemann were most famous for producing directional “3-way signs” also known as “triple signs” also known as “slat signs”. These signs would display 3 different advertising messages depending on which direction that you were facing the sign.
These triple signs were very popular advertising signs usually displayed outside of general stores and hardware stores to grab the attention of patrons walking by or in horse-drawn wagons. Their signs were used for a variety of industries and companies including like Tobacco, Cigar Makers, Chew and Snuff Makers, Bicycle Makers, Candy Makers, Soap Makers, Food Makers, Breweries, Distilleries, and Equine Suppliers just to name a few; and for companies like Heinz Company and Arbuckles Coffee.
