The Ohio Thermometer Company was established by Lee F. Chaney in 1922 and was incorporated in 1934 located in Springfield, OH. In the beginning, they posed as a thermometer distribution company but in 1929 they began producing their own.
The thermometers that they produced served as both generic household versions as well as thermometer with adverting of various companies all using materials like porcelain-enamel on steel, galvanized steel, brass, and wood. At their peak they produced over 15,000,000 thermometers annually in more than 200 different types.
In 1932, Ohio Thermometer Company began produced porcelain enamel and neon advertising signs for various companies across the country. During World War II, they supported the war efforts by producing bimetallic thermometers to be used in industry and on various types of war time machinery. They produced thermometers and signs for companies like Rexall Drugs, Mountain Dew, Coca Cola Company, Orange Crush, and Sprenger Brewing Company just to name a few.
In 1983, they were acquired by the Thermometer Corporation of America located in Columbus, OH. The original headquarters and manufacturing building is still standing to this day; click here to view the building.
