The Imperial Enamel Company was established in 1898 located in New York, NY and is headquartered in Birmingham, England. They produced porcelain enamel advertising signs for various companies and industries across the country. Imperial Enamel Company specialized in producing street signs, door numbers, carriage plates, and advertising signs.  Their advertising signs were referred to as “Imperial Enamel Iron Signs”.

They had various customers across the country including companies like Western Union, Adam Express Company, Wells Fargo & Company Express, Nestle, Bell Telephone, Climax Plug Tobacco, and Ivory Soap just to name a few.  They also created porcelain signs for the brewing industry for breweries like Deppen, Lauer, Washington, Stroh’s, Bartholomay, Goebel’s, and Windisch-Muhlhauser just to name a few.

In 1910, Imperial Enamel Co. ceased operations and closed it’s doors for good.  Their closure was due in-part to the lack of sales and larger competitive sign makers in the area.
