The Hayes Lithographing Company was established in 1900 by three men by the names of Herman Koerner, Herman Cosack, and Charles Hayes located in Buffalo, NY. Hayes Lithographing Co. began as a book publisher, advertising sign maker, and tray manufacturer. The company was originally known as Koerner & Hayes which was established years earlier in 1881.
They published a variety of books including novels by Charles Dickens and Shakespeare just to name a few. They also produced advertising which included lithograph signs, calendars, trade cards, beer trays, and tip trays for various companies and industries across the country. Some of their most recognizable lithographs were stock images of Native American Indians. Among the industries was the beer brewing industry; breweries took a liking to what Hayes Litho Company was producing and would hire them to produce advertising items such as lithograph signs, calendars, trade cards, beer trays, and tip trays to promote the brewery as well as the beer, ale, and porter produces that they produced.
Just some of the brewers that hired Hayes Litho Co. were breweries like Reading, Lauer, Barbey’s Inc, Sunshine, Mount Carbon, Yuengling, Oneida, Miller, Anheuser Busch, and Leinenkugel just to name a few.
